Leadership

The Leadership Team is responsible for building our company vision and ensuring that we continue to be a driving force for improving workplace safety.

Mike Vea
Mike Vea

President/Co-Owner

In 2012, Mike Vea became President and Co-Owner of Lewellyn Technology, bringing with him more than 30 years of business leadership experience with service companies.

Prior to concluding his share purchase of Lewellyn, Mike has been CEO, Director, or Advisor to several businesses in the finance, healthcare, education, and safety sectors and served on more than 10 business boards, including Bank One, IN Secondary Markets, EVSC, and Star Corporation. He specializes in growing second-stage, niche businesses by his intense focus on finding the best people, creating unique approaches to sales and services, and implementing the most efficient, highly productive processes.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Mike attended Indiana University with the hopes of becoming a dentist, until—as he recalls—those dreams where dashed in his freshman Chemistry classes. Mike shifted to Finance, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1981 from the IU Kelley School of Business and his master’s degree in Tax and Finance from DePaul University in 1984.

Still a diehard Indiana University basketball fan, Mike enjoys cheering on his Hoosiers when he’s not at work, as well as playing golf, watching movies, and working out. He loves coaching and also volunteers regularly with various groups focused on helping kids gain access to higher education.

Roger Black
Roger Black

Chief Financial Officer

In 2014, Roger Black assumed the Chief Financial  Officer role at Lewellyn Technology, bringing with him over 25 years of well-rounded experience in similar positions in both Public Accounting and Private Industry.

In his current role, Roger oversees the accounting and operations areas of the business. And, just as he’s done at other companies, Roger stepped into Lewellyn’s Finance Department, implemented new processes and procedures, inspired his staff to do more than they thought possible, and directed the company toward continued success.

A native of Holton, Indiana, Roger’s still proud of the fact that he played on his small town’s high school basketball team that made it to the IHSAA Sweet Sixteen—beating many larger schools along the way. And when he’s not working, Roger continues to carry that love of sports while traveling with his daughter to her travel sports.

He also worked for three years in the Field Services Division at Siemens, helping to coordinate field technicians and organizing a regional arc flash assessment group. In his current role, Chris—who holds 35 state professional engineering licenses—appreciates the opportunity he has to create something new, implement cutting edge approaches and find ways to provide better solutions for the client.

Human Resources Manager

A native of Shelburn, Indiana, Darla Harmon joined Lewellyn Technology in 2001, initially serving within the company’s Customer Service Department. Today, Human Resources Manager, Darla most enjoys the opportunity she has to develop and empower Lewellyn staff. As she puts it, “we are nothing without quality employees, and I want to be able to work hard for everyone, while also seeing them grow in their capacity.”

Over the years, Darla has been instrumental in helping to guide and lead the company from its start-up phase to the Inc. 5000 list. She also played a key role in establishing a Lewellyn Technology location in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jay Smith
Jay Smith

Executive Vice President

In 2001, Jay Smith joined Lewellyn Technology as the Onsite Training Salesperson—at the suggestion of his father who had been serving for a year as an instructor at the company. Three years later, Jay was promoted to Vice President of Business Development and eventually to his current role of Executive Vice President.

One of Jay’s first key projects as VP of Business Development was to lead the launch of the company’s Arc Flash Analysis Division, which offered engineering services for electrical safety hazards. Jay was specifically responsible for building the sales channels, quoting projects, and educating Lewellyn’s clients on the requirements and need for the NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. It’s still one of the proudest moments in his career, and Jay enjoys retelling it as the company’s leading expert and spokesperson for NFPA 70E.

Outside of work, Jay enjoys deer hunting, golfing, coaching boys basketball, and—as he jokingly puts it—still doing nothing with his Biology/Pre-Med Degree.
